FAQ
Jet boarding is a relatively new sport, so we understand that you might have a lot of questions. Here's everything you need to know before you rent a jet board in Punta Cana with MJetBoards!- General Questions
- Jet Board Booking and Rental Questions
- Safety and Training Questions
- Experience and Jet Board Use Questions
What is the minimum age to operate a jet board?
The minimum age to operate a jet board is 8 years. Young riders should be accompanied by adults during the lesson and the ride, and it’s best if parents also participate in the activity as well.
How long does the activity last?
The activity lasts one hour or until the battery runs out, whichever comes first. The autonomy of the battery is between 35-45 minutes (of pure riding time) depending on a whole set of conditions (including rider’s weight, sea conditions, wind, and so on).
When you first learn to stand on the jetboard, you can expect to have a few falls near the shore, so normally one hour is more than enough to both learn to ride and enjoy it to the fullest.
Note that it is a physically demanding activity, so you might get tired early if you plan on renting the jet board for more than 2 hours.
How does the jet board renting process go?
Here’s how it goes:
- We pick you up at a specific time from a specific location in the town of Miches, Playa Esmeralda in a boat, and take you to the spot which is about 5-7 minutes away;
- When we arrive at the spot, we will provide you with the necessary safety equipment, you will receive instructions and demonstrations on how to use the board, and start riding it;
- We will maintain visual and audio contact during your ride at all times. Your helmet has a wireless communication device which allows the instructor to talk to you in real time.
Once the class is finished we will return you to the pick up spot — with a new experience, a new skill, and probably a ton of new content for your Instagram.
What is included in the rental fee?
Pick up and return in a boat from a local spot, all the safety equipment, guidance, instructor, and the jet board itself. The rental fee is the full package + transportation to the surf spot and back.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept cash and local bank transfers.
How do I reserve a jet board?
You need to reach out to us and let our team know that you want to reserve the board. Please get in touch via the phone — it’s +1 (829) 673-4658) — or via the Booking Form on the Contacts page.
Can I rent multiple boards at once for a group?
Yes, you can! You can rent up to 5 boards at once for a whole family experience or a friend group ride. Our instructors will provide all the necessary information on the spot, so all you need to do is just tell us how many of you are coming, and when, so we can charge all the boards necessary for your activity.
How far in advance should I book my jet board?
As long as you need, most importantly — book it in at least 24 hours before the ride, otherwise we’ll have to provide the ride based on availability. We need to be sure that all boards are charged, serviced, cleaned & ready for your safe and thrilling ride, so the more in advance we know about your visit — the better.
What is your cancellation or refund policy?
In case you, for some reason, can not attend, it’s best if you warn us 24+ hours before the activity. It’s free to cancel in advance. In extraordinary situations and medical emergencies, if you have a medical note on you, we can cancel your booking with no charges in less than 24 hours before the start of the activity.
Are there any hidden fees or deposits required?
No, nothing like that. Come to our location, get instructions, get the board, pay the flat rental fee, ride the waves. We don’t overcomplicate the experience that should be all about fun and thrill.
Do I need any special permits to use a jet board?
Absolutely not. No permits are required to ride a jet board, no certifications, and no paperwork whatsoever. Our instructors have all the necessary certification (not to use the jet board, but to teach new riders), so you can relax and just ride.
Is a safety briefing included with the rental?
Yes, on the spot you’ll get all the instructions: how to ride the board, how to fall from it, if needed, how to stop, how to turn, and so on. Keep in mind that you (or your loved ones, if you consider jet boarding experience as a gift) is the #1 priority for the instructors and our team on the spot.
What safety gear is provided with the rental?
You get all that’s needed for a safe and comfortable ride:
- A helmet with communication device (to be able to talk to our team on the shore at any moment during your ride);
- Rashguard (optional) — to protect the skin from the sun (please, do not use sunscreen if you plan on using the rashguard);
- Lifevest;
- Knee protection (optional);
- Watershoes (optional).
We use high quality safety gear and equipment and monitor your ride closely at all times.
Are there any specific areas where jet boarding is not allowed?
No, we don’t provide the jet boarding rental in areas where it’s prohibited. Our riding location is in a closed bay area of playa Esmeralda. In addition to the scenic coast line and a perfectly comfortable beach, it has more than enough room to play for both new and experienced riders.
How safe is it to rent and ride a jet board?
You’re riding a high-tech piece of equipment, designed with safety in mind, over the water, while several experienced instructors nearby are in constant communicatio with you. It’s pretty safe, to say the least!
We use the best brand boards on the market today, and on top of that, we have created the safest conditions under which we provide this activity. However, it is still an extreme sport activity and you will need to sign a waiver for yourself and/or your dependents under 18 years old.
What is the maximum weight capacity of your jet boards?
It’s 300 lbs. Anything under that is OK for a great ride.
Do I need prior experience to ride a jet board?
No, no previous experience is required to ride a jet board. If you have at least some experience with snowboards, skate boards, surfing, or any other kind of boards — it’ll be easier for you, but it’s not a necessary requirement. People that never tried any sort of water sports before are easily learning it in the first few minutes of the activity, thanks to our instructors.
How difficult is it to learn how to ride a jet board?
It depends on previous experience in any board sports, or sports in general, though we can say it’s pretty easy to learn to ride a jet board. Over 50% of our clients stand up on the board in the first few attempts. In general, over 99.99% of students learn to do it within the duration of the first class.
Can kids use a jet board?
Yes! Our jet boards and the conditions we have created allow us to teach children as young as 8 years old. And from our experience, the youngest riders enjoy it the most.
What are the best conditions for riding a jet board?
Calm waters are the best for beginners. Calm & comfortable, with little to no waves is exactly the conditions our surf spot provides most of the year around.
Are jet boards environmentally friendly?
Yes, it’s as green as it gets! Awake RÄVIK 3 is a fully electric board. Unlike gas-powered boards, it causes no pollution, produces no waste, and it’s completely safe for the ecosystem of Punta Cana coast line.
